Altace Medication - Uses & Side Effects

Altace is in a group of drugs known as ACE inhibitors. ACE stands for angiotensin converting enzyme. This inhibitors help to reduce blood pressure by decreasing production of a protein known as angiotensin-converting-enzyme.

Altace Dosage

• For the treatment of High blood pressure, the usual starting dose is 2.5 milligrams and you should be taken once daily.
• For children, the safety and effectiveness of Altace in children have not been established

• Altace is used to treat high blood pressure, and heart failure.

Side Effects of Altace

Before taken Altace medicine, you should discuss the side effects with your doctor. If any develop or change in intensity, then you should inform your doctor as soon as possible. Because only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking Altace. Side effects may include:

• Chest pain
• Cough
• Dizziness
• Low blood pressure

Warnings and precautions before taking Altace:

• If you develop abdominal pain with or without nausea and vomiting, then you should contact with your doctor. Because ACE inhibitors such as Altace may cause intestinal swelling.
• If you notice that your skin or the whites of your eyes turning yellow, then you should notify your doctor.
• After taken this medicine, then you may feel dizzy, or drowsiness. So you should not participate in any activities that require alertness such as driving and operate machinery.

Drug Interaction :-

If you are taking Altace with certain other drugs, then the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. So it is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Altace with the following:

• Alcohol
• Diuretics such as hydrochlorothiazide
• Lithium
• Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as Naprosyn and Orudis
• Oral diabetes drugs such as DiaBeta, Glucotrol, Micronase, and Orinase
• Potassium-containing salt substitutes

Overdose

After taken Altace if you feel that overdose is suspected, then you should contact with your doctor immediately. Because it may lead to another serious effect. Symptoms of low blood pressure are likely to be the primary warning of an Altace overdose.
