Aygestin Medication- Uses & Side Effects

Ortho-Micronor® or Errin™ or Jolivette™, Nor-QD® or Camila™, Norlutin®, Aygestin® is used as a birth-control pill or a hormone treatment. It acts like the natural hormone progesterone. It is also used to treat an irregular menstrual cycle, lack of menstrual periods, or abnormal uterine bleeding that may be caused by a hormonal imbalance.

Aygestin Dosage

• For the treatment of uterine bleeding due to hormonal imbalance, the usual starting dose is 2.5 to 10 milligrams a day and you should be taken for 5 to 10 days during the second half of a 28-day cycle.
• For the treatment of endometriosis, the usual starting dose is 5 milligrams a day for 2 weeks.

Uses of Aygestin

• Norethindrone is used for birth control to prevent pregnancy.
• Norethindrone is also used to treat menstrual disorders, endometriosis, or abnormal vaginal bleeding that may be caused by a hormone imbalance.

Side Effects of Aygestin

Before taken Aygestin medicine, you should discuss the side effects with your doctor. If any develop or change in intensity, then you should inform your doctor as soon as possible. Because only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking Aygestin. Side effects may include:

• Acne
• Blood clots in the arteries
• Veins
• Eyes, or lungs
• Breast enlargement or tenderness
• Bulging eye
• Depression
• Cervical changes or secretions
• Mood swings
• Nausea
• Rash with or without itchy spots
• Skin discoloration

Warnings and precautions before taking Aygestin:

• You should tell your doctor your medical history, especially if you have high blood pressure, seizures, migraine headaches, diabetes, asthma, heart problems, liver problems, kidney problems
• Before having surgery, such as dental surgery. You should tell the doctor that you are taking this medicine.
• After taken this medicine, then you may feel dizzy, or drowsiness. So you should not participate in any activities that require alertness such as driving and operate machinery.

Drug Interaction :-

If you are taking Aygestin with certain other drugs, then the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. So it is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Aygestin with the following:

• Aminoglutethimide
• Carbamazepine
• Phenobarbital
• Phenytoin
• Rifabutin
• Rifampin

Overdose

After taken Aygestin if you feel that overdose is suspected, then you should contact with your doctor immediately. Because it may lead to another serious effect. Symptoms of a Aygestin overdose include

• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Vaginal bleeding
