Cozaar Medication - Uses & Side Effects

Losartan is used alone or in combination with other medications to treat high blood pressure. Losartan is in a class of medications known as angiotensin II receptor antagonists. It works by blocking the action of certain chemicals that tighten the blood vessels so blood flows more smoothly.

Cozaar Dosage

• For the treatment of High blood pressure, the usual starting dose is 50 milligrams once daily.
• For the treatment of Kidney disease caused by diabetes, the usual starting dose is 50 milligrams once daily.

Uses of Cozaar

• Losartan is also used sometimes to treat congestive heart failure
• Losartan is used alone or in combination with other medications to treat high blood pressure.

Side Effects of Cozaar

Before taken Cozaar medicine, you should discuss the side effects with your doctor. If any develop or change in intensity, then you should inform your doctor as soon as possible. Because only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking Cozaar. Side effects may include:

• Cough
• Dizziness
• Upper respiratory infection

Warnings and precautions before taking Cozaar:

• You should tell your doctor if you are allergic to losartan or any other medications.
• If you are taking prescription and nonprescription medications, vitamins, nutritional supplements, and herbal products, then you should tell your doctor.
• If you have or have ever had heart failure or kidney or liver disease, then you should tell your doctor.
• You should tell your doctor if you plan to become pregnant or are breast-feeding.

Drug Interaction :-If you are taking Cozaar with certain other drugs, then the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. So it is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Cozaar with the following:

• Diuretics that leave potassium in the body
• Indomethacin
• Ketoconazole
• Troleandomycin

Overdose

After taken Cozaar if you feel that overdose is suspected, then you should contact with your doctor immediately. Because it may lead to another serious effect. Symptoms of a Cozaar overdose include

• Fast or slow heartbeat
• Feeling light-headed, or fainting
