Dalmane Medication - Uses & Side Effects

Flurazepam is in a class of drugs known as benzodiazepines. It affects chemicals in the brain that may become unbalanced and that may cause insomnia or anxiety. Dalmane is used to treat various medical conditions such as for the relief of insomnia, waking up frequently at night, or waking up early in the morning.

Dalmane Dosage

  • The usual starting dose is 30 milligrams and you should take this medication at bedtime.
  • If you are older adults, then the usual starting dose is 15 milligrams.

Uses of Dalmane

  • Flurazepam is used to induce sleep and cause relaxation
  • Dalmane may also be used to treat other medical conditions as determined by your doctor.

Side Effects of Dalmane

Before taken dalmane medicine, you should discuss the side effects with your doctor.  If any develop or change in intensity, then you should inform your doctor as soon as possible. Because only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking dalmane. Side effects may include:

  • Dizziness
  • Drowsiness
  • Falling
  • Lack of muscular coordination
  • Light-headedness
  • Staggering

Warnings and precautions before taking Dalmane

  • If you are severely depressed or if you have severe depression, then you should consult with your doctor before taking this medication.
  • After taken this drug, you may feel dizzy or drowsy, or may also cause temporary blurred vision. So you should use caution engaging in activities that requiring alertness or clear vision such as driving or using machinery.
  • Before taking flurazepam, you should tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or to other benzodiazepines such as lorazepam, diazepam; or if you have any other allergies.
  • Do not take flurazepam if you are pregnant or are or could become pregnant during treatment.
  • Take this medication exactly as it was prescribed for you. Do not take the medication in larger amounts, or take it for longer than recommended by your doctor.

Drug Interaction :-

If you are taking dalmane with certain other drugs, then it may be increased, decreased, or altered the effects of medicine. So it is especially important to check with your doctor before combining dalmane with the following:

  • Antidepressants such as Elavil and Tofranil
  • Barbiturates such as Seconal and phenobarbital
  • Major tranquilizers such as Mellaril and Thorazine
  • Narcotic painkillers such as Demerol and Tylenol with Codeine
  • Sedatives such as Xanax and Halcion
  • Tranquilizers such as Librium and Valium
Overdose

After taken dalmane if you feel that overdose is suspected, then you should contact with your doctor immediately. Because it may lead to another serious effect. Symptoms of a dalmane overdose may include:

  • Coma
  • Confusion
  • Low blood pressure
  • Sleepines
