Dexamethasone is in a class of drugs known as steroids. It reduces swelling and decreases the body's immune response. It is similar to natural steroid hormone that produced by the adrenal gland. It treats severe allergies, skin problems, asthma, arthritis and other conditions.

Decadron Tablets Dosage

• For adults, the initial doses range from 0.75 milligram to 9 milligrams a day.

Uses of Decadron Tablets

• Decadron is used to reduce inflammation and relieve symptoms in a variety of disorders, such as rheumatoid arthritis and severe cases of asthma.
• It is also used to treat many immune and allergic disorders, such as arthritis, lupus, severe psoriasis, severe asthma, ulcerative colitis, and Crohn's disease.

Side Effects of Decadron Tablets

Before taken Decadron Tablets medicine, you should discuss the side effects with your doctor. If any develop or change in intensity, then you should inform your doctor as soon as possible. Because only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking Decadron Tablets. Side effects may include:

• Abdominal distention
• Blood clots
• Bone fractures and degeneration
• Cataracts
• Excessive hairiness
• Fluid and salt retention
• General feeling of illness
• Headache
• Increased appetite
• Loss of muscle mass
• Muscle weakness
• Nausea

Warnings and precautions before taking Decadron Tablets:

• You should tell your doctor if you are allergic to dexamethasone, aspirin, tartrazine, or any other drugs.
• If you are taking prescription and nonprescription medications especially anticoagulants such as warfarin, arthritis medications, aspirin, cyclosporine, digoxin, diuretics, ephedrine, theophylline (Theo-Dur), and vitamins, then you should tell your doctor.
• If you have a fungal infection, then you should not take dexamethasone without talking to your doctor.
• If you have or have ever had liver, kidney, intestinal, or heart disease; diabetes; an underactive thyroid gland; high blood pressure; mental illness, then you should tell your doctor.

Drug Interaction :-If you are taking Decadron Tablets with certain other drugs, then the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. So it is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Decadron Tablets with the following:

• Aspirin
• Blood-thinning medications such as Coumadin
• Carbamazepine
• Ephedrine
• Indomethacin
• Ketoconazole
• Phenytoin
• Rifampin

Overdose

After taken Decadron Tablets if you feel that overdose is suspected, then you should contact with your doctor immediately. Because it may lead to another serious effect. Symptoms of a Decadron Tablets overdose include

• Obesity
• A round face
• Increased hair growth
• Acne
• Bruising
• Increased blood pressure
• Swollen hands
• Feet
• Sore or weak muscles
