Duragesic Medication - Uses & Side Effects

Duragesic®, E-TRANS® Fentanyl relieves moderate to severe chronic pain. Fentanyl patches are commonly used to treat pain associated with cancer.

Duragesic Dosage

• The Duragesic patch comes in four sizes: Duragesic-25, 50, 75, and 100. If you have not been taking a narcotic painkiller prior to Duragesic, the doctor will start with the smallest size.

Uses of Duragesic

• The Duragesic fentanyl skin patch is used to treat moderate to severe chronic pain.

Side Effects of Duragesic

Before taken Duragesic medicine, you should discuss the side effects with your doctor. If any develop or change in intensity, then you should inform your doctor as soon as possible. Because only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking Duragesic. Side effects may include:

• Abdominal pain
• Confusion
• Depression
• Exaggerated high spirits
• Fatigue
• Hallucinations
• Impaired or interrupted breathing
• Loss of appetite
• Nausea
• Shortness of breath

Warnings and precautions before taking Duragesic:

• Before using this medication, you should tell your doctor your medical history especially if you have heart or lung disease, asthma, difficulty urinating, enlarged prostate, high blood pressure, low thyroid function, any drug allergies.
• After taken this medicine, then you may feel dizzy, or drowsiness. So you should not participate in any activities that require alertness such as driving and operate machinery.
• You should be used Duragesic with extra caution if you have an irregular heartbeat.

Drug Interaction :-If you are taking Duragesic with certain other drugs, then the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. So it is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Duragesic with the following:

• Antifungal medications such as Diflucan, Nizoral, and Sporanox
• HIV drugs classified as protease inhibitors, including Agenerase, Crixivan
• Macrolide antibiotics such as erythromycin, Biaxin, and Zithromax

Overdose

After taken Duragesic if you feel that overdose is suspected, then you should contact with your doctor immediately. Because it may lead to another serious effect. Symptoms of a Duragesic overdose include

• Slow breathing
• Extreme weakness or dizziness
• Pinpoint pupils
• Cold and clammy skin, or fainting.
