Factive Medication - Uses & Side Effects

Factive is an antibiotic in the class of drugs known as fluoroquinolones. It fight bacteria that may cause infections in the body. It is used to treat infections of the respiratory tract, such as bronchitis and pneumonia.

Factive Dosage

• If you have bronchitis, then the usual starting dosage is one 320-milligram tablet once a day for 5 days.
• If you have pneumonia, then you should be taken medicine once a day for 7 days.

Side Effects of Factive

Before taken Factive medicine, you should discuss the side effects with your doctor.  If any develop or change in intensity, then you should inform your doctor as soon as possible. Because only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking Factive. Side effects may include:

• Diarrhea
• Headache
• Nausea
• Rash

Warnings and precautions before taking Factive:

• You should not use Factive if you have had a recent heart attack or if you have a history of irregular heartbeat, a very slow heartbeat.
• You should be used Factive with caution if you have epilepsy or a history of convulsions. Because antibiotics such as Factive have infrequently caused serious nervous system problems, such as convulsions. These antibiotics may also caused tremors, lightheadedness, confusion, depression, insomnia. You should call your doctor immediately if you develop any of these symptoms.
• Before taking this medicine, you should tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or to other quinolones such as ciprofloxacin, levofloxacin.

Drug Interaction :-If you are taking Factive with certain other drugs, then the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. So it is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Factive with the following:

• Antiarrhythmics
• Procainamide
  
• Antidepressants such as Elavil
  
• Diuretics
  
• Erythromycin
  
• Probenecid

Overdose

After taken Factive if you feel that overdose is suspected, then you should contact with your doctor immediately. Because it may lead to another serious effect. Symptoms of Factive overdose may include:

• Decreased activity
• Dizziness
• Tremors
• Convulsions
