Felbatol Medication - Uses & Side Effects

Felbatol is a new epilepsy medication and it is used alone or with other drugs to treat partial seizures. You can also use felbatol with other medications to treat seizures that are associated with Lennox-Gastaut syndrome.

Felbatol Dosage

  • Whether you are taking Felbatol alone or with other antiepileptic drugs, but the usual starting dose is 1,200 milligrams per day and it is divided into smaller doses and you should be taken 3 or 4 times daily.
  • In children, the usual starting dose is 15 mg/day in 3 to 4 divided doses.

Uses of Felbatol

  • Felbamate is used to control seizures.
  • It may also be used to treat other medical conditions those are listed in this medication guide.

Side Effects of Felbatol

Before taken Felbatol medicine, you should discuss the side effects with your doctor.  If any develop or change in intensity, then you should inform your doctor as soon as possible. Because only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking Felbatol. Side effects may include:

  • Anxiety
  • Constipation
  • Diarrhea
  • Ear infection
  • Facial swelling
  • Headache
  • Indigestion
  • Loss of appetite
  • Menstrual irregularities
  • Nausea
  • Rash
  • Vomiting

Warnings and precautions before taking Felbatol:

  • If you are using felbatol, then it may cause blood disorders and liver problems. So you should be used this medicine with extra caution.
  • If you have ever had liver problems, then you should tell your doctor.
  • You should stop using this drug immediately and also notify your doctor if you have symptoms of infection such as fever, chills, weakness, dark urine, or persistent stomach/abdominal pain.

Drug Interaction :- If you are taking Felbatol with certain other drugs, then the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. So it is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Felbatol with other epilepsy drugs, such as Dilantin, Depakene, and phenobarbital.

Overdose

After taken Felbatol if you feel that overdose is suspected, then you should contact with your doctor immediately. Because it may lead to another serious effect. Symptoms of Felbatol overdose may include:

  • Mild stomach upset
  • Unusually fast heartbeat
  • Heart rate
  • Nausea.
