Floxin Medication - Uses & Side Effects

Floxin® is an antibiotic. It is used to treats various infections such as urinary tract, prostate, skin, urinary and respiratory tract infections, as well as certain sexually transmitted diseases and it also prevent their growth.

Floxin Dosage

• If you have chronic bronchitis, then the usual dose is 400 milligrams every 12 hours for 10 days, for a total daily dose of 800 milligrams.
• If you have gonorrhea, then the usual dose is 400 milligrams taken once.

Uses of Floxin

• It is used to treat outer ear infections and middle ear infections.
• It may also be used for other medical conditions those are listed in this medication guide. 

Side Effects of Floxin

Before taken Floxin medicine, you should discuss the side effects with your doctor.  If any develop or change in intensity, then you should inform your doctor as soon as possible. Because only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking Floxin. Side effects may include:

• Diarrhea
• Difficulty sleeping
• Dizziness
• Headache
• Itching of genital area in women
• Nausea
• Vaginal inflammation

Warnings and precautions before taking Floxin:

• Before using this medication, you should tell your doctor your medical history, especially if you have ear problems.
• If you have kidney disease, tendon problems, nervous system disorders, liver disease, or any drug allergies, then you should tell your doctor.
• After taken Floxin medicine, then you may feel dizzy or light-headed. So you should not participate in any activities that require full mental alertness such as driving, operating machinery.

Drug Interaction:- If you are taking Floxin with certain other drugs, then the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. So it is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Floxin with the following:

• Antacids containing calcium, magnesium, or aluminum
• Blood thinners such as Coumadin
• Cyclosporine
• Probenecid
• Sucralfate
• Theophylline-containing drugs, such as Theo-Dur

Overdose

After taken Floxin if you feel that overdose is suspected, then you should contact with your doctor immediately. Because it may lead to another serious effect. Symptoms of Floxin overdose may include:

• Disorientation
• Hot and cold flashes
• Nausea
• Slurring of speech
