Keppra Medication - Uses & Side Effects

Keppra® medicine is used to control partial seizures. It is also used with other medications to control the convulsions. You can also used keppra with other seizure medicines to help control seizures.

Keppra Dosage

• For adults and children over 16, the usual starting dosage is 500 milligrams twice a day.
• If you have kidney disease, then your dosage may be lower. Your doctor may also increases the dosage every 2 weeks upto 1,500 milligrams twice a day.

Uses of Keppra

• Keppra is used to control seizures.

Side Effects of Keppra

Before taken Keppra medicine, you should discuss the side effects with your doctor.  If any develop or change in intensity, then you should inform your doctor as soon as possible. Because only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking Keppra. Side effects may include:

• Sleepiness
• Depression
• Personality disorders
• Rash
• Hair loss

Warnings and precautions before taking Keppra:

• After taken keppra medicine, you may feel some dizzy or drowsiness. So you should not perform any activities that require full alertness such as drive or operate machinery.
• You should not stop taking this medicine without talking with your doctor, otherwise it may result in your seizures returning.
• Keppra medicine may decrease your ability to cope with daily life activites.

Drug Interaction :-

If you are taking Keppra with certain other drugs, then the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. So it is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Keppra with the following:

• Antihistamines
• Medicine for sleep or anxiety
• Muscle relaxants
• Narcotic pain relievers
• Psychiatric medicines
  

Overdose

After taken Keppra if you feel that overdose is suspected, then you should contact with your doctor immediately. Because it may lead to another serious effect. Symptoms of a Keppra overdose include:

• Aggression agitation
• Coma
• Drowsiness
• Reduced consciousness
• Slowed breathing
