Lamictal Medication - Uses & Side Effects

Lamictal® is one of the newer anti-epileptic drugs which is considered broad spectrum. It is effective in both partial-onset and generalized-onset epilepsy. Like many other AEDs, it inhibit sodium channels. Lamictal is available in tablets of various sizes.

Lamictal Dosage

• You should be taken this medicine according to your doctor.
• You should be taken each oral dose of Lamictal with a full glass of water.

Side Effects of Lamictal

• Dizziness
• Headache
• Blurred or double vision
• Lack of coordination

• After taken this medicine, you may feel dizziness and cause double vision. So you should not participate in any activities that require full mental alertness such as car drive and operate machinery.

• If you have kidney or liver disease, or heart problems, then you should be used Lamictal with extra caution.
  

Drug Interaction :-

If you are taking Lamictal with certain other drugs, then the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. So it is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Lamictal with the following:

• Carbamazepine
• Drugs that inhibit folate metabolism
• Oral contraceptives
• Phenobarbital
• Phenytoin
• Primidone

Overdose

After taken Lamictal if you feel that overdose is suspected, then you should contact with your doctor immediately. Because it may lead to another serious effect. Symptoms of a Lamictal overdose include:

• Coma
• Decreased level of consciousness
• Increased seizures
• Lack of coordination
• Ataxia
• Impaired consciousness
