Lexapro Medication - Uses & Side Effects

Lexapro belongs to a group of drugs known as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors. It work by affecting chemicals in the brain that may cause unbalanced and also cause depression or anxiety.

Lexapro Dosage

  • The usual starting dose of Lexapro tablets is 10 milligrams once a day.

Uses of Lexapro

  • Escitalopram medication is used to treat depression and generalized anxiety disorder (GAD).

Side Effects of Lexapro

Before taken Lexapro medicine, you should discuss the side effects with your doctor.  If any develop or change in intensity, then you should inform your doctor as soon as possible. Because only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking Lexapro. Side effects may include:

  • Constipation
  • Decreased appetite
  • Fatigue
  • Headache
  • Impotence
  • Nausea

Warnings and precautions before taking Lexapro:

  • After taken Lexapro medicine, you may feel sleepy type or drug may make you dizzy or drowsy. So you should not participate in any activities that require full mental alertness such as driving or using machinery.

  • You should not stop taking Lexapro medicine without talking to your doctor. Because sudden decrease in dose may cause withdrawal symptoms such as mood problems, lethargy, insomnia, and tingling sensations.

  • Sweating
  • Rapid heartbeat
  • Confusion

  • Seizures
