Omnicef Medication - Uses & Side Effects

Omnicef® is a cephalosporin antibiotic. It is used to treats various kinds of infections including respiratory tract, sinuses, ears, and urinary tract.

Omnicef Dosage

• For adults and adolescents 13 years and over, the maximum daily dose is 600 milligrams.
• For children 6 months through 12 years old, the usual dose of Omnicef Suspension is based on body weight. The suspension contains 125 milligrams per teaspoonful.

Uses of Omnicef

• It is used to treat mild to moderate infections including acute flare-ups of chronic bronchitis, middle ear infections (otitis media), throat and tonsil infections, skin infections.
• Omnicef may also be used to treats other medical conditions those are listed in this medication guide.
  

Side Effects of Omnicef

Before taken Omnicef medicine, you should discuss the side effects with your doctor.  If any develop or change in intensity, then you should inform your doctor as soon as possible. Because only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking Omnicef. Side effects may include:

• Diarrhea
• Nausea
• Vaginal infection
• Rash
  

Warnings and precautions before taking Omnicef:

• You should be used Omnicef with extra caution if you suffer from colitis.
• If you develop symptoms such as diarrhea while you are taking Omnicef, then you should be notify your doctor.
• If you have seizure while you are taking Omnicef, then you should stop taking it and call your doctor immediately.
  

Drug Interaction :-

If you are taking Omnicef with certain other drugs, then the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. So it is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Omnicef with the following:

• Antacids such as Maalox and Mylanta
  
• Iron supplements
  
• Multivitamins containing iron
  
• Probenecid

Overdose

The effects of an Omnicef overdose are unknown. But after taken Omnicef if you feel that overdose is suspected, then you should contact with your doctor immediately. Because it may lead to another serious effect.
