Ortho Medication - Uses & Side Effects

Ortho Evra is a contraceptive skin patch. It contains estrogen and progestin and the same hormones also found in many birth control pills. Contraceptives such as Ortho Evra reduce fertility by eliminating the fluctuations. The birth control patch is a way to prevent pregnancy.

Ortho Evra Dosage

  • You should be used three Ortho Evra patches during each 28-day cycle.
  • You should also be applied a new patch each week for 3 weeks.

Uses of Ortho Evra

  • Ortho Evra is used to prevent pregnancy.
  • It may also be used to treats other medical conditions those are listed in the medication guide.

Side Effects of Ortho Evra

Before taken Ortho Evra medicine, you should discuss the side effects with your doctor.  If any develop or change in intensity, then you should inform your doctor as soon as possible. Because only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking Ortho Evra. Side effects may include:

  • Decreased flow of milk when used immediately after birth
  • Appetite changes
  • Breast tenderness or enlargement
  • Contact lens discomfort
  • Bladder infection
  • Chest pain
  • Bleeding in spots during a menstrual period
  • Cataracts
  • Bloating
  • Depression
  • Acne

Warnings and precautions before taking Ortho Evra:

  • You should be used this medicine with extra caution if you are over 40 years old, or if you have liver, heart, gallbladder, or kidney disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes.
  • If you have blood circulation problems or have had a heart attack or stroke in the past, then you should tell your doctor.
  • If you have problems with depression, migraine or other headaches, irregular menstrual periods, or visual disturbances, then you should tell your doctor.

Drug Interaction :-

If you are taking Ortho Evra with certain other drugs, then the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. So it is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Ortho Evra with the following:

  • Acetaminophen
  • Topamax
  • Prednisolone
  • Barbiturates
  • Cyclosporine
  • Ketoconazole
  • Folic acid
  • Griseofulvin
  • Itraconazole
Overdose

After taken Ortho Evra if you feel that overdose is suspected, then you should contact with your doctor immediately. Because it may lead to another serious effect. Symptoms of a Ortho Evra overdose include:

  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Vaginal bleeding in females
