Paxil Medication - Uses & Side Effects

Paxil and Paxil CR are antidepressant medications and it is used to treat anxiety disorders. Paxil medicine are members of the SSRI family. Paxil medications are used to treat the symptoms of major depression without causing some of the harmful side effects that may cause by the older tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs). It affects chemicals in the brain that may cause unbalanced and depression, panic, or obsessive-compulsive symptoms.

Paxil Dosage

• The usual starting dose is 20 milligrams a day.
• Mostly the starting dose is 25 milligrams a day. After the intervals of 1 week, your doctor may also be increased dosage by 12.5 milligrams a day and up to a maximum of 62.5 milligrams a day.

Uses of Paxil

• Paxil medication is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor used to treat depression, panic attacks, obsessive-compulsive disorder, social anxiety disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, and generalized anxiety disorders.

Side Effects of Paxil

Before taken Paxil medicine, you should discuss the side effects with your doctor.  If any develop or change in intensity, then you should inform your doctor as soon as possible. Because only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking Paxil. Side effects may include:

• Asthenia (weakness)
• Sweating
• Abnormal orgasm
• Nausea
• Somnolence (drowsiness)

• Procyclidine
• Alcohol
• Propafenone
• Aspirin
• Phenobarbital
• Theophylline
• Propranolol
• Quinidine

Overdose

After taken Paxil if you feel that overdose is suspected, then you should contact with your doctor immediately. Because it may lead to another serious effect. Symptoms of a Paxil overdose include:

• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Tremor
• Sweating
• Decreased urination
