Peganone Medication - Uses & Side Effects

Peganone® medications helps to control seizures in certain types of epilepsy. It is also used in combination with another seizure medication. It works by slowing down impulses in the brain that may cause seizures.

Peganone Dosage

  • The usual starting dose is 1,000 milligrams or less a day and you should be taken this medicine in 4 to 6 divided doses spaced as evenly as possible.
  • Dosage depends on the child's age and weight. The usual starting dose should not be exceed 750 milligrams a day, and you should be taken 4 to 6 divided doses spaced as evenly as possible.

Uses of Peganone

  • Peganone medication is used to treat seizures and epilepsy.
  • It may also be used to treats other medical conditions those are listed in the medication guide.

Side Effects of Peganone

Before taken Peganone medicine, you should discuss the side effects with your doctor.  If any develop or change in intensity, then you should inform your doctor as soon as possible. Because only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking Peganone. Side effects may include:

  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Nausea
  • Double vision
  • Loss of or impaired muscle coordination
  • Fever
  • Gum overgrowth or thickening
  • Headache
  • Insomnia
  • Skin rash
  • Dizziness
  • Chest pain

Warnings and precautions before taking Peganone:

  • After taken Peganone medicine, you may feel dizzy, lightheaded, drowsy, or less alert. So you should not participate in any activities that require more alertness such as drive or operate any machinery.
  • If you have any medical conditions such as liver disease, then you should tell your doctor.
  • You should not stop using this medicine without taking your doctor. Because it may cause any problem. So you need to slowly decrease your dose before stopping it completely.

Drug Interaction :-

If you are taking Peganone with certain other drugs, then the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. So it is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Peganone with the following:

  • Blood-thinning drugs such as Coumadin
  • Drugs used to treat blood disorders
  • Phenacemide (Phenurone)
Overdose

After taken Peganone if you feel that overdose is suspected, then you should contact with your doctor immediately. Because it may lead to another serious effect. Symptoms of a Peganone overdose include:

  • Drowsiness
  • Coma
  • Loss of or impaired muscle coordination
  • Visual disturbance
  • Nausea
