Sandimmune Medication - Uses & Side Effects

Cyclosporine is a drug that reduces the body's ability to fight illness/disease, leaving patients vulnerable to infection or other problems. Cyclosporine can also cause high blood pressure and kidney problems.

Sandimmune Dosage

• The usual starting dose is 15 milligrams per 2.2 pounds of body weight 4 to 12 hours and 1 dose daily for 1 to 2 weeks after the operation.

Side Effects of Sandimmune

• Breathing difficulty

• Diarrhea

Warnings and precautions before taking Sandimmune:

• When your immune system is suppressed by Sandimmune, then it may lead to the risk of infection and of certain malignancies, such as skin cancer and lymph system cancer.
• If you are taking this medicine, then high-dose Sandimmune is toxic to the liver and kidneys and may also cause serious kidney damage.
• This medication should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Because cyclosporine used during pregnancy has resulted in newborns with problems such as low birth weight and being born too early.

Drug Interaction :-

If you are taking Sandimmune with certain other drugs, then the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. So it is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Sandimmune with the following:

• Allopurinol
• Atorvastatin
• Bromocriptine
• Cardizem, and Procardia

Overdose

An overdose of Sandimmune would be expected to cause liver and kidney problems. So after taken sandimmune if you feel that overdose is suspected, then you should contact with your doctor immediately. Because it may lead to another serious effect.
