Sectral Medication - Uses & Side Effects

Sectral, a type of medication known as a beta blocker and it is used in the treatment of high blood pressure and abnormal heart rhythms. It is effective to used alone or in combination with other high blood pressure medications such as thiazide-type diuretic. Beta blockers also decrease the force and rate of heart contractions.

Sectral Dosage

• For the treatment of Hypertension, the usual starting dose is 400 milligrams per day.
• If you have irregular heartbeat, then the usual starting dosage is 400 milligrams per day divided into 2 doses. Your doctor may also be increase the dose 600 to 1,200 milligrams per day.

Uses of Sectral

• Acebutolol is used to treat hypertension and heart rhythm disorders.

Side Effects of Sectral

Before taken Sectral medicine, you should discuss the side effects with your doctor.  If any develop or change in intensity, then you should inform your doctor as soon as possible. Because only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking Sectral. Side effects may include:

• Abnormal vision
• Chest pain
• Constipation
• Decreased sexual ability
• Fatigue
• Gas
• Headache
• Indigestion
• Joint pain
• Nasal inflammation
• Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing

Warnings and precautions before taking Sectral:

• If you have had severe congestive heart failure in the past, then you should tell your doctor and you should be used this medication with extra caution.
• You should not be stopped this medication suddenly. Because this may cause increased chest pain and heart attack. So you should be reduced dosage gradually.
• If you suffer from asthma, seasonal allergies, other bronchial conditions, then you should be used this medication with caution.

Drug Interaction :-

If you are taking Sectral with certain other drugs, then the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. So it is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Sectral with the following:

• Albuterol
• Certain blood pressure medicines such as reserpine
• Certain over-the-counter cold remedies and nasal drops such as Afrin, Neo-Synephrine,
• Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen and Voltaren
• Oral diabetes drugs such as Micronase

Overdose

After taken Sectral if you feel that overdose is suspected, then you should contact with your doctor immediately. Because it may lead to another serious effect. Symptoms of a Sectral overdose include:

• Difficulty breathing
• Extremely slow heartbeat
• Irregular heartbeat
• Low blood pressure
• Low blood sugar
• Seizures
