Trizivir Medication - Uses & Side Effects

Trizivir combines three drugs used to fight HIV. The components of Trizivir are all members of the category of HIV drugs known as nucleoside analogs including Abacavir, Lamivudine, Zidovudine.

Trizivir Dosage

• For adults, the usual starting dose of Trizivir is 1 tablet twice daily with or without food.
• Trizivir is not intended for children and adolescents who weigh less than 90 pounds. Teenagers who weigh more than 90 pounds receive the adult dose.

Uses of Trizivir

• It is used to treat HIV infection.

Side Effects of Trizivir

• Blisters in the mouth or eyes

• If you are taking Trizivir, then it may cause liver problems and a serious medical condition known as lactic acidosis. In addition, be alert for warning signs of the problem, such as persistent nausea and fatigue, and you should notify your doctor if they occur.
• You should tell your doctor if you've had liver problems in the past.
• Treatment with Trizivir can cause serious blood disorders such as anemia and neutropenia. You will need to have frequent blood tests performed while you are taking Trizivir.

• Emtricitabine
• Fluconazole
• Ganciclovir
• Interferon-alpha

• Methadone
• Nelfinavir
• Probenecid
• Ribavirin
• Trimethoprim
• Valproic acid
• Zalcitabine

Overdose

After taken Trizivir if you feel that overdose is suspected, then you should contact with your doctor immediately. Because it may lead to another serious effect. Symptoms of a Trizivir overdose include:

• Confusion
• Dizziness
• Headache
• Lack of energy
• Nausea
• Vomiting
