Zoladex Medication - Uses & Side Effects

Zoladex treats the symptoms of advanced prostate cancer in men and advanced breast cancer in premenopausal women. In combination with other forms of therapy, it is also used for the treatment of early prostate cancer. It works by reducing levels of testosterone in men and estrogen in women.

Zoladex Dosage

• For prostate cancer, the treatment is one 3.6-millgram implant followed by one 10.8-milligram implant 4 weeks later.

Side Effects of Zoladex

Before taken Zoladex medicine, you should discuss the side effects with your doctor. If any develop or change in intensity, then you should inform your doctor as soon as possible. Because only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking Zoladex. Side effects may include:

• Acne
• Breast development in men or enlargement in women
• Change in sex-drive
• Depression
• Emotional problems
• Flu symptoms
• Hair growth in women
• Infection

Warnings and precautions before taking Zoladex:

• Severe allergic reactions, including hives and swelling of the lips and throat, have been reported with drugs similar to Zoladex. If these symptoms occur, call your doctor immediately.
• When given with sex hormones, Zoladex may lead to overstimulation of the ovaries. It has also been known to cause ovarian cysts.
• If you are taking Zoladex to relieve endometriosis, your doctor may recommend hormone-replacement therapy to limit the effects of the reduced estrogen levels that result from Zoladex therapy.

Drug Interaction :-

No interactions have been reported. But if you are taking Zoladex with certain other drugs, then the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. So it is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Zoladex with other drugs.

Overdose

• An overdose of Zoladex is highly unlikely. But after taken Zoladex if you feel that overdose is suspected, then you should contact with your doctor immediately. Because it may lead to another serious effect.
