Zyprexa helps manage symptoms of schizophrenia, the manic phase of bipolar disorder, and other psychotic disorders. It work by opposing the action of serotonin and dopamine, two of the brain's major chemical messengers.

Zyprexa Dosage

• For the treatment of Schizophrenia, the usual starting dose is 5 to 10 milligrams once a day.
• For the treatment of Manic Episodes in Bipolar Disorder, the usual starting dose is 10 to 15 milligrams once a day.

Side Effects of Zyprexa

• Agitation
• Change in personality
• Dizziness
• Increased appetite
• Low blood pressure upon standing
• Sleepiness
• Tremor
• Weakness

Warnings and precautions before taking Zyprexa:

• You should tell your doctor if you develop signs of high blood sugar, including dry mouth, unusual thirst, increased urination, and tiredness.
• You should be used zyprexa with caution if you have any of the following conditions such as Parkinson's disease, trouble swallowing, an enlarged prostate, heart disease, liver disease, seizures, or intestinal blockage.
• Drugs such as Zyprexa sometimes cause a condition known as Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome (NMS). Symptoms include high fever, muscle rigidity, irregular pulse or blood pressure, rapid heartbeat, excessive sweating, and changes in heart rhythm. If these symptoms appear, you should contact your doctor.

Drug Interaction :-

If you are taking Zyprexa with certain other drugs, then the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. So it is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Zyprexa with the following:

• Blood pressure medications
• Carbamazepine
• Diazepam
• Fluvoxamine
• Levodopa
• Omeprazole
• Rifampin

Overdose
